Star Sapphire Rings in Sterling Silver

Star sapphire rings feature a natural optical phenomenon called asterism, where light reflects off rutile silk inclusions to form a six-pointed star across the stone's surface. Our collection includes 36,647 rings set in .925 sterling silver, each mounted with real star sapphires sourced from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand. Sapphire ranks 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it suitable for daily wear. Prices range from $6 to $6302, with free shipping to all US addresses.

Natural Star Sapphire Rings With Six-Ray Asterism

Star sapphires form when titanium dioxide needles grow within the corundum crystal during its development deep in metamorphic rock. These microscopic inclusions, called silk, align in three directions at 60-degree angles. When a lapidary cuts the stone en cabochon with proper orientation, overhead light creates the signature floating star that moves as the ring shifts on your hand. The intensity of asterism varies by specimen. Some display sharp, well-defined rays that extend to the edge of the cabochon. Others show softer stars with a milky quality. Blue remains the most recognized color, though star sapphires also occur in gray, black, pink, and golden yellow. Black star sapphires from Thailand often show the most prominent rays due to higher concentrations of hematite and ilmenite inclusions. Each ring in this collection uses .925 sterling silver for the band and setting. We have offered natural gemstone jewelry since 2005, and our star sapphire selection changes as new stones become available. Browse the full range to find a ring that fits your size and budget.

What causes the star effect in star sapphires?

Asterism occurs when needle-like rutile inclusions inside the sapphire reflect light in three intersecting directions, creating a six-ray star visible on the surface of cabochon-cut stones.

Are star sapphires durable enough for rings?

Yes. Sapphire measures 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamond. This hardness makes star sapphire rings practical for regular wear without significant risk of scratching.

Where do your star sapphires come from?

Our star sapphires are sourced from traditional mining regions including Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand. Each stone is natural and untreated unless otherwise noted in the product listing.
