Opal jewelry brings together natural stone and solid sterling silver in pieces that shift color as you move. Each opal forms over millions of years as silica spheres stack in precise patterns, creating that signature play of light. Our collection holds over 130,000 opal pieces set in .925 silver—rings, pendants, earrings, and bracelets featuring Ethiopian, Australian, and Mexican varieties. With a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 6.5, opal needs protective settings, which is why our silver bezels and prongs keep stones secure for regular wear.

Opal contains tiny silica spheres arranged in a grid pattern. When light enters the stone, it bends around these spheres and splits into spectral colors. The size and arrangement of spheres determine which colors you see.
Opal rates 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, softer than quartz. Store pieces separately to prevent scratches. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and sudden temperature changes. Clean with a soft damp cloth.
Ethiopian opals are hydrophane, meaning they absorb water and may temporarily change appearance when wet. Australian opals have a more stable water content. Both display color play, though patterns and body tones differ by source.
