Fire opal jewelry brings the warm orange, red, and yellow tones of volcanic gemstones into wearable form. These opals form in ancient lava flows, primarily in the highlands of Mexico and parts of Brazil. Unlike common opals, fire opals display a transparent to translucent body color that ranges from honey yellow to deep cherry red. Each piece in our collection features natural fire opals set in solid .925 sterling silver. We ship free across the United States and have served customers since 2005.

Most gem-quality fire opals originate in Mexico, particularly the states of Querétaro, Jalisco, and Hidalgo. Brazil, Ethiopia, and parts of the American Southwest also produce fire opal material. The stones form in volcanic rock cavities where silica-rich water deposits layers over millions of years.
Fire opal measures 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. This places it below quartz and topaz but above materials like turquoise. Earrings and pendants see less wear than rings, making them good choices for daily use.
Fire opal refers specifically to opals with warm body colors ranging from yellow through orange to red. This color comes from iron oxide content. Some fire opals also display play-of-color, but many are valued for their transparent body color alone. Common opal and precious opal from Australia typically show white, gray, or black body colors.
Store fire opal pieces separately to prevent scratches from harder stones. Clean with mild soap and water using a soft cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaning, and sudden temperature changes. Remove fire opal rings before manual work or washing dishes.
