The needle-like inclusions are titanium dioxide crystals that grew within the quartz as it formed under heat and pressure. Most rutilated quartz comes from Brazil's Minas Gerais region, though quality specimens also emerge from Madagascar, Australia, and Pakistan. The rutile needles range from fine hair-like strands to thick golden rods, sometimes arranged in star patterns or random sprays. Our sterling silver settings protect the stone while allowing light to pass through and illuminate the internal needles. Bezel settings offer more protection for active wear.
