Helenite forms when volcanic ash meets temperatures above 1500°F, fusing silica and trace minerals into colored glass. The process mirrors how obsidian develops in nature, though helenite production happens under controlled conditions using genuine Mt. St. Helens material. Most helenite shows an intense green hue, though copper and iron content can produce red, blue, or teal variations. The material rates 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, comparable to window glass, making it suitable for pendants and necklaces where impact risk stays low. Each sterling silver setting we use carries a .925 purity stamp, meaning 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. This combination resists tarnish better than fine silver while maintaining the bright white finish that complements helenite's color.
